“This is a man,” she says, “who has a noble mission in life: to help other people through his experience.” Notice she didn’t say “through his education”. Notice she didn’t elaborate on his degrees. She said “through his experience.”

By example.

Through experience.

Oh yes.

An email to Kipp:

funny. when i typed in the subject, i first typed “a muse see” – it is that, too.

it’s fascinating how once i honored my creativity || Read more

Last year, Kipp and I spent Thanksgiving night in the emergency room at the local hospital. As we sat there engaged in delicious conversation, the backburner hatched a way for Him (character’s husband, not Kipp) to die. It was unusual, but plausible. I liked it . . .

And I forgot it.

Then there I was in the grocery store parking lot yesterday when BAM || Read more

Today my old familiar friend named Doubt sneaks back in, leaving me wondering if I can really write, and if I can, how on earth I will actually do it on top of and alongside everything else I do.

Mostly I wonder about how to write stories from my life that involve other people in what some might deem a less than positive manner. It’s the age old problem, isn’t it? How to write MY stories || Read more

i want a clothesline, that’s all there is to it. might be hard to put it on a mountainside, especially when the mountain is rock, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. and i’ve got the will. yes, i surely do.

i remember grandmother stuffing those stretcher bars into granddaddy’s pants (oh hush now. that is not metaphorical, it’s literal.), hanging them on the line to dry. i have her clothpin bag, you know. it’s made from that ole’ familiar blue and white ticking. understates. durable. i’ll use that bag when i have my clothesline.

In Orlando visiting Nancy (my mentally handicapped sister-in-law) today is a tiring treat. Trying to figure out why she’s been acting out requires wearing my best interpretation ears.

My brother is home from Afghanistan for two weeks of R&R, and I am staying with Mother to put me closer so as to spend every possible minute with J3. Perhaps she’s glad to have me around, perhaps she doesn’t like company, perhaps it’s because she’s the epitome of a social butterfly – whatever the reason behind it, I will either learn to write fast – to capture my thoughts, feelings, and ideas quickly and immediately or I will mourn their quick coming and going.

Auditioning names today. Ugh. I am the world’s worst when it comes to naming.

I like the name Sena and/or Ever for my main character. But somehow Ever Sena seems an unfortunate choice. Say it with me: “Ever Sena snake that size?” Or “Ever Sena cat that color?” So though I like both names, but I’m gonna’ have to separate the two girls. || Read more

Another lazy day here as the fallow continues. I know that fallow is to creativity what listening is to communication, and I know that I’m justifiably exhausted given everything that’s happened this year – I console myself with that reminder – but still. Then POOF just like that, the idea appears, like it’s been here all along. I laugh thinking about the old saying “it takes a lifetime to be an overnight success.” || Read more
